Diversity and Inclusion Committee Survey

The newly formed IFAC Diversity and Inclusion Committee would be delighted if you would take ten minutes of your time to fill in our survey. The idea is to ask all participants at World Congress 2020 to fill in this form, so please forward it on if they are not on our distribution lists. This is the link:

The objective is to help our community to become more diverse and inclusive of minority groups going forward.

Multilingual Girls in Control Workshop material is now available!

The Girls in Control (GIC) virtual workshop, which is offered free of charge, is targeted to 10-to-15-year-old girls. Its aims are to stimulate their passion for control and encourage them to consider a career in STEM.

During the workshop, the girls watch several videos covering control theoretic principles. They learn about feedback and discuss control examples from their everyday lives. Using the Scratch programming language they can then implement their first controllers for an automated game of their design.

The workshop is currently available in English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, and Portuguese and is being expanded to include Bangla, Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Punjabi, Pushto, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, and Urdu. Additionally plans are underway to expand the workshop to include offerings for older girls with prior/advanced programming experience.

If you are interested in developing materials for the Girls in Control workshop in an additional language, or you have any questions related to the GIC workshop in general, please contact

Control Conference Africa (CCA) MOU signed

IFAC (The International Federation of Automatic Control) and SASAC (South African Council for Automation and Control) have recently signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for the Control Conference Africa. This agreement allows for permanent IFAC co-sponsorship of the Control Conference Africa event series. The Control Conference Africa is a conference which is intended to bring together the control community on the African continent.

The MOU was signed by IFAC President Hajime Asama (JP) and SASAC President John Burchell (ZA). The agreement contains topics including event branding and communication, quality control, fees, and gentleperson’s agreements (such as the Code of Conduct and attempting to avoid date/scheduling overlaps).

The next Control Conference Africa (in cooperation with IFAC) - CCA 2021 is scheduled to take place in Magalies, South Africa from 7-8 December 2021. CCA 2021 is currently listed as part of the „Upcoming Events“ on the IFAC website and in the IFAC Newsletter. Further details will be provided on the CCA website as soon as it is available.

SASAC is the South African IFAC NMO (National Member Organization.) Further information about SASAC and its activities can be found on its website at:
